Little Dragon:Trolle Siebenhaar

27 01 2008

trolle Siebenhaar

From our friends at aurgasm, I’ve found two great music tour de force. Little Dragon and Trolle Siebenhaar. Mr. Paul Irish puts it in better words than I do: “If a few piano keys can give way to glitchy sounds swirled around to accompany a soulful, jazzy, bassline bop, then strutted with an array of atmospheric keyboards, hi-hats, and 80’s movie charm, where a melodically-luscious, poignant voice plays freely atop a heartbeat’s skyline, than you’d be listening to Little Dragon. Yukimi Nagano, by way of Swell Session, Koop, and José González, is making music with high school friends Erik Bodin (drums), Fredrick Källgren (bass) and Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboards).”

Trolle Siebenhaar is the dynamic due from Copenhagen, Denmark and making a big impact on the music scene over there. If you like the Little Dragon then definitely you’ll like Siebenhaar. Ane Trolle has been a freestyle singer and featured vocalist for several top danish acts and soundsystem over the years. From hip hop to reggae, drum ‘n’ bass to electro, she covers all genres with the true ease of a professional. Pato Siebenhaar has already established himself as an eclectic solo artist and producer, known for his signature dirty and soulful beats.

PS:DON’T FORGET YOU HAVE TO OPEN LINKS ON OTHER TABS SO YOU CAN GO TO ZSHARE.NET TO EASILY DOWNLOAD THE SONGS…it’s all linked straight to the song file.

*DUB* MUZIX…Ital Corner

27 01 2008

jazzbo

The album known variously as Natty Passing Thru’ (for its initial release on the Black Wax label in Jamaica) or Ital Corner (when later issued in the U.S. by Brad Osbourne’s Clocktower imprint). It was tracked in its entirety early in 1974 at producer Lee “Scratch” Perry’s newly opened four-track studio, the Black Ark, a garage-sized structure in Perry’s backyard, with Perry’s house band as rhythm section.
The Upsetters were Scratch’s answer to the Meters, whose New Orleans funk was plagiarized often and effectively on early Upsetters instrumentals. Most of Ital Corner’s tracks were cut for Jazzbo’s use, according to David Katz’s exhaustively researched People Funny Boy: the Genius of Lee “Scratch” Perry (Payback Press, 2000). Some rhythms, though, will prove immediately familiar, the accompaniment of Max Romeo’s “One Step Forward” recycled as the basis of Jazzbo’s “Ital Corner.” The sound is pure Scratch, reggae-as-moiré-pattern, the entire band and vocalist pushed through phase shifters and excessive spring reverb. The other Black Ark productions released on Island Records had the benefit of English mastering engineers. Ital Corner is rougher around the edges, dark as India ink and enhanced with portents of doom. We hear the DJ at the bottom of a very deep pit, en route to Hell; the horn section squalls like insects over a distant hill at dusk.

BONUS: Lee Perry’s Roast Fish and Cornbread…just a lil token of my love for dub

AIGHT!

Here are two tunes that were a lil too big to post with the rest of the show. The Sta Remix of Rubberneck Nightingale by One Hand Loves the Other and Bag Raiders Remix of KidSister’s ProNails….both which are tight as hell mixes in my opinion. Not too much, not too little. Sta is out in big o’l Toronto and Bag Raiders from Sydney. I recommend these tunes whenever you’re having some pupils over for a good time chillin and dancin. Enjoy.

THE TURKISH TALE

25 01 2008

what

I’ve posted for this weeks music w/ a particular tune called a turkish tale…if anyone who speaks Turkish or understands it and right now you’re reading this blog, do me a favor and please comment on what tale the people are telling in this old old recording from the c. 40’s Turkey. I thought it was one wicked track to have found and it was on air thank god.

I’ve been tired this week for having had stayed up late every night watching a lil bit of TCM before I hit the hay and call it a night…what can you do, they always have something cool on late at night. Or it could just be me being in the mood to watch some black & white flick that has nothing to do with me but for some reason I happen to find it interesting enough…it kinda puts me in a funny time frame in my head.

Nevertheless, the music will continue…and this week was another great one for the archives. I’m giving you some tunes from Indian, Burmese, Mediterranean, Turkish, Eritrean, American, Canadian, Australian, Algerian, Italian, French, Sierra Leon….it goes on. So please do save the files and share amongst your friends, it’s a lovely collection…and there’s more to come.

Back to school fever is so not here

14 01 2008

camague, cuba

If anyone gets the chance, go and visit Camague, Cuba. That’s a street in Camague. It has as I hear a really cool local music scene like Havana and Satiago de Cuba.

I guess we should all be excited about the new year and the new semester. Cause you never know, 08 can be YOUr year.

And so to start off the new academic year of excellent rhythm rue music…here’s the posting of tunes I’ve acquired for you this evening. It’s an eclectic mix of lovely sounds. Noudi’s music isn’t here yet so I’ll post that tomorrow afternoon. Here’s my half.

I’m really excited cause Kutiman, The Twelves, Letta Mbulu and Ssion are by far the most exciting songs to me on this session. The others are just as great don’t get me wrong. But every time I’ve sampled those four artist, it doesn’t hurt at all! It’s sweet in fact. I’ve also put in some Ike and Tina cause I was just in the mood. It makes the show more inclusive to all music made all over the world…hence international music show.

Hope everyone’s having a great Monday, I know I am. It’s a bit chilly here in Lubbock but can’t complain. It’s all good.

kutiman

The link will take you to zshare.net and you can download the zip file and extract the files easily. Enjoy.

Artits: Ssion, Tybalt, Alton Ellis, Abbas Haji and The Egyptian Musical Club, Amin Xaaji Cusimaan, The Twelves, Ike & Tina, Ras Michael, Isaac Matafwani, Kutiman, Letta Mbulu, Sammy Kaye, Susumu Yokota and Yma Sumac
