Big ups to Mr. Jon Creel who sent me this image of his latest form-z masterpiece, it’s quite my fancy, this is what I feel like when mixing that tight shite you here on the live sets..perhaps with a black background and some laser beams of glory and happiness beaming thought the entire image on to the next horizon of sound waves that are out of this w.o.r.l.d.

The mix for our 26th show has been a great one by far and it was a nice little set. The latin loves as I like to call it. I started out w/ Brazil’s Marcelo D2 and went on to Perez Prado of Cuba. We got a great feedback from the tunes the next couple of days and so we went on to cheer and prance around the billowing fields of the dirt yellow grass patches that we so candidly call parks on our campus….yes, it was fun

A wonderful gem was found last night at the Continental Club in south Austin. My friends Dino, Erick and I parked my car and started walking around for a joint to chill out at but first wanted something to eat. So we end up walking around yeying or neying some spots and end up out of choice outside the Continental Club on south Congress and I see a group of young nice lookin peoples and I decide to get a recommendation on food since I didn’t know the area very well. Then the nice lady named Lisa or something tells us we should try Zen the Japanese restaurant that relatively cheap and great taste but also tells us we should come back around 10 for this jazz trio that would be playing in the upstairs of Continental Club and man did she do a great job of persuading us to check it. By the end of her talk we all looked at each other thinking wow, we have to check it out.

That is when an hour later we checked out mr. Ephraim Owens. By far one of the best trumpet players I’ve ever seen and trust me he was amazing. This little joint was a lil off to the side of the main club so it’s like a hidden treasure as Lisa said. It was only 30 or so of us but Ephraim shows up w/ his trio every Tuesday and fills the house w/ his jazzy sensations of smoothness and cool…the original way. If I could place myself in 1939 Harlem and imagine what a bluesy night w/ jazz would be like…it would be like last night and man can he blow that horn so sweetly. I was in love with that sound and I’ll always be. It always makes it better though when someone who knows the trumpet like the back of their hand, tunes it up to its pure beauty. Thank you Mr. Owens for the lovely evening.

If you are in Austin anytime in the future and you’re bored on a Tuesday night, for sure check out the Continental Club on South Congress and check out The Ephraim Owens Experience and tip these guys cause they’re not charging covers at all.

I’ve been out here in my home town of Austin and basically going nuts over all the great music I saw. What a great time. Even though I got here way late on Friday night, I was still able to make it out to Black & Tan for an evening of good Rock…no synth craze, but it was worthy of attention and dancing. But the highlight of my sxsw experience came when I paid $15 to check out the Official Fool’s Gold Jamboree which started out w/ Nick Catchdubs, Jokers of the Scene, Kid Cudi(which was fantastic btw), Flosstradamus, Kid Sister, A-Trak then closed the evening w/ Chrome-chrome-chromeo-o-o-o….so if u know what I’m talkin about then you can imagine how awesome of a night it was. Which included meeting and conversing w/ some really nice and really cool people. Another great time in Austin, thank you. Hopefully the pics do my experience justice…

We were fortunate enough last night to have the duo Johnny Faa over at the studios and they played some authentic beautiful Irish music that was geared more towards the traditional music. It was Chris Smith and Steve Cooper that came in the studio and brought their flute and bouzouki to educate and entertain us for the first hour of our show with their delightful music. They also played a few songs from their cd’s they were kind enough to share with us and I’ve posted a few of them in zip file you can download from zshare to get the songs played last night. I apologize for the late posting but I had a chunky paper due this morning that I stayed up all night for…so the afternoon nap was necessary.

We also played more of IAM and CFCF and Noudi played some Royksopp and Alif Tree remixd by Felix Laband.

In other news, make sure to show up at BASH’S on Wednesday night for the Old Time Relijun, The Oh Sees & Clipd Beaks show…I know it’s gonna be badass and for it will so much more once I finish the night with a lil set I’ve prepared to ROCK yo face off….seriously, it’s gonna get hot and smokin tmrw night, you won’t wanna miss this. I’m excited so that means it’s gonna be great. I’ll try at least.

We’ll be back for sure after spring break but I’ll post tunes up in between now and then, so no worries. But I’ll be Austin so if anybody knows of any good shows I don’t know bout, for sure leave a note. I’ll be checkin out Chromeo on saturday night so find it on their myspace for more info bout that. cfcf is Mike Silver from Montreal, Canada. His official remix contest winning version of ‘air war’ by crystal castles is one to really enjoy. He has the very exquisite taste of slower than usual dance beats, trust me you’ll wanna know some of his songs so when I play them next time at a party, you’ll want to recognize and say “I know this song, I have this song, lets DANCE”…then finish the binge you were on. Influenced by daft punk, alan braxe, fleetwood mac, todd rundgren and the nintendo entertainment system, cfcf gives you analog vintage synth video game soundtrack music with a french house twist!

For today’s selection, I bring you TCO. The aptly named Cinematic Orchestra (TCO) were formed by 30 year old J. Swinscoe back in 1999. At the time Jay was still an employee at Ninja Tune in South London, where he was responsible for export sales at the long-standing independent record label. Swinscoe arrived at London Bridge from Scotland via Yorkshire and Cardiff with a background playing bass and guitar in bands and DJing, as well as a head full of ideas and influences, such as his love of jazz bass players, rhythm sections and film soundtracks.

The tune for you this evening is called “All that you give” featuring Fontella Bass. Here is a good selection for the blog because both me and Noudi have this song and I was going to play it but she already had it on her list. It’s a lovely mix of Fontella Bass and TCO’s great skills of composition. Fontella Bass is one of the great soul sistas that’s still active in the business. She’s originally from St. Louis but started out her big career in Chi-town.

Mr. Erick Stowe over at the newly dubbed “The Basement” threw a party two weekends ago and it took place in his and his roommate’s basement. An actual basement here in Lubbock, which is pretty rare, made the party even more interesting. Though it got hot once in a while the crew kept going and back to the basement and made the night an eventful one. The whole idea was the bless the night with our dancing skills and drunkenness.
